About smashPC

Own your own profile data. No ads, no marketing.

What we sell

• A profile at smashpc.com/yourname. $2 a month.
• Domain names, registered in your name. Price varies by ending: All prices.
• Traditional hosting: a cPanel account for your own files and WordPress. A profile comes with it.
• The smashPC bar: a Follow link for a website you already have. Included with every profile.

How it works

• No ads. Your details are not sold.
• Home shows the people you follow, newest first.
• No likes and no notifications. Follower counts are off unless you turn yours on.
• Your first post each day reaches your followers. Later posts stay on your page.

The charge is for storing your data.

Where we stand

smashPC believes in the freedom of expression and dialogue. We are openly a Christ-honoring company, and we hope our values will reflect that. Anyone is welcome to have a page on this site.

However, if a page reflects harm or malintent in any form, smashPC has the right to pull the page from the network.

Terms

These terms are the agreement between smashPC (“we”, “us”) and whoever holds the account (“you”). Making an account or paying for anything here means agreeing to them.

Prices

Each plan, each domain name and traditional hosting costs what the page selling it says. Prices can change. If a price you pay changes, you get an email before it applies.

Your account

1. You are 18 or older.
2. An account belongs to one person. One person, one account.
3. You are responsible for your password and for everything done with your account.
4. You are responsible for everything published under your account.

Paying, renewing and canceling

1. A plan is paid in advance, monthly or yearly.
2. A plan renews by itself at the end of each month or year, and the card on file is charged for the next one, until the plan is canceled from Billing.
3. A domain name renews each year the same way, until its renewal is switched off under Domains.
4. Traditional hosting is paid in advance each month and renews by itself, until it is stopped under Account settings.
5. Payments are not refundable except where the law requires it. smashPC may refund at its own discretion.

When a plan stops

If a plan stops, access to the profile stops until it is paid again. A profile that comes with traditional hosting stops the same way when the hosting stops being paid. If traditional hosting stops being paid, the hosting account is suspended and its website stops working.

Closing your account, under Account settings, deletes it and everything on it, apart from a hosting account, which is suspended.

Your content

1. What you publish is yours. We claim no ownership of it.
2. You give us permission to store it, to show it on your page, to show it on Home for the people who follow you, and to serve what is on a hosting account to its visitors.
3. Nothing is checked before it is published.
4. You are responsible for keeping your own copies of what you publish.
5. Sharing a design lets other members use its look on smashPC.

The rules

smashPC may not be used to:

• break the law, or help anyone else do it;
• publish pornography or sexually suggestive material;
• publish anything sexual involving a child;
• threaten, harass or incite violence against anyone, including whoever answers support;
• phish, scam or otherwise trick people out of their money or details;
• publish someone else's private information;
• send spam or run malware;
• impersonate someone else.

Removing a page

smashPC may remove a page, suspend or delete a hosting account, close an account, or delete what is on it, at its own discretion.

Where the law requires material to be preserved or handed to the authorities, it is, and it cannot be deleted on request. Child sexual abuse material is reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Copyright complaints

If something on a smashPC page, or on a website on a smashPC hosting account, infringes your copyright, email support@smashpc.com with the web address of the page, the work of yours it copies, your name and contact details, and a statement that you own the work or represent whoever does. smashPC's designated agent for these notices is the Copyright Agent, smashPC, 251 N. Elmwood Ave., Palatine, IL 60074, 847-238-2111, support@smashpc.com. Repeat infringers lose their accounts.

Domains

A domain name bought here is registered in your name with an ICANN-accredited registrar. Every domain is governed by the registrar's registration agreement and by ICANN's policies, and those terms form part of this agreement. The registration agreement is shown before you buy, and buying means accepting it. ICANN sets out a registrant's rights and responsibilities at https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/benefits-2013-09-16-en.

• ICANN requires true contact information and an answer to its verification email. An unverified domain is suspended until there is one.
• A new domain carries a 60-day transfer lock, which is ICANN's rule.

Traditional hosting

Traditional hosting is a cPanel account on a server shared with other accounts, with the space and monthly transfer stated on the page selling it. You are responsible for everything on your hosting account, whoever put it there, and for keeping its software up to date and secure. You are responsible for keeping your own copies of what is on it, somewhere other than the server; copies made on the server are not part of what you buy. A hosting account that slows the server for other accounts, or is used for file storage, backups of other computers, bulk email, mining or file sharing, may be limited or suspended without notice. smashPC may refuse an order for traditional hosting.

Liability

Your use of smashPC is at your own risk. The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind. We do not promise that it will be secure, uninterrupted or error-free. We may change or discontinue parts of the service.

You expressly understand and agree that smashPC shall not be liable, in law or in equity, to you or to any third party for any direct, indirect, incidental, lost profits, special, consequential, punitive or exemplary damages, including damages for loss of profits, goodwill, use, data or other intangible losses, resulting from: the use or inability to use the service; the cost of substitute goods and services; unauthorised access to or alteration of your data; statements or conduct of any third party on the service; or any other matter relating to these terms or the service.

Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability to you is capped at what you paid us in the twelve months before the problem. We are not responsible for what members publish on their own pages or hosting accounts.

If what you publish, anything on your hosting account, or a domain name you register, brings a claim against smashPC, you cover its cost.

Changes, and the legal part

Changes to these terms are posted here with a new date. Using smashPC after a change means accepting it.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, and any dispute belongs in the courts there. If any part of them turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands. Not enforcing something straight away does not give up the right to. We may hand this agreement to a company that takes over the service.

Privacy

This covers smashpc.com and every member's own website made here. It does not cover a website on a hosting account, which is run by whoever holds that account.

What we collect, and why

• Your account. An email address, a username and a password, stored scrambled (hashed) so we cannot read it.
• Google or Microsoft login, if used: the provider, your account ID with it, and your email address. Nothing else is requested or stored.
• What you publish. Your posts, pages and photos, which are public.
• Payment records. Your card number goes from your browser to the card payment company, not through us. We see your name, email and the card's last four digits.
• Domain contact details, only if you buy a domain. ICANN requires a real name, address, email and phone number.
• Your hosting account, only if you buy traditional hosting: its username, its domain name, the card payment company's identifier for the card that pays for it, and the time and IP address of the order.
• Special dates, only if you add one to a profile: what it is, the month and day, and the year if you give one. People who can see the profile see it on the day, at the top of Home if they follow it and on the profile itself, without the year unless you choose to show it.
• The words you type into the page builder, which go to the company whose AI builds the look from them.
• Help chats are kept for 12 months to answer you; smashPC AI's answers come from Anthropic's Claude.
• To stop abuse, a scrambled form of a visitor's internet address is kept for up to two days when a chat is ended.
• Requests to the site, logged with the IP address, page, time and browser, to fix problems and block attacks.

Visit counts

A visit is counted for the site as a whole: the page viewed, the site the visitor came from, the browser and operating system, the screen width, and the country, which is worked out from the IP address before the address is thrown away. No visitor cookie.

Each member's page keeps a count of its own as well: the day, how many people came, and how many pages they looked at. To keep from counting the same person twice in a day it keeps a scrambled note made from the visitor's address and browser. The note is not an address and is not kept: it is thrown away, with the key that made it, when the day ends, and after that nothing can turn it back into anybody. The member sees their count on a screen they open on purpose, and may switch on a counter that shows the total to everybody who visits. It is off unless they switch it on, and what is stored is the same either way.

Cookies

Reading a page here sets no cookies. A screen with a form on it, Join, Log in or Report, sets one cookie that stops another website sending a form in your name. Logging in, including with Google or Microsoft, adds a second cookie that keeps you logged in until you log out. Neither follows you anywhere else.

Photos

An uploaded photo is re-encoded and the hidden camera data (called EXIF, including GPS coordinates) is removed.

Who else receives it

Each of these does one job.

• A card payment company: your card details go from your browser to it, not through us. It also holds your name and email address, for the receipt.
• The domain registrar, and the registry for your domain's ending, if you buy a domain: the contact details ICANN requires.
• A hosting company, if you buy traditional hosting: everything on the hosting account is stored on its servers, with the account's domain name and email address.
• The company whose AI builds a page from a description: the words you type into the builder and, when it designs or checks a look, what your page's sections are about and pictures of the page.
• The company whose AI checks pictures and builds looks: a picture you upload for your page's look, to check it suits a family website and, if you ask, to design a look around it.
• The company whose AI checks comments for scams, spam and abuse: the text of each comment, and nothing else.
• Google and fal.ai: when you choose Advanced drawn, Lifelike, Custom or Make a picture, or change a photo with smashPC AI, the words you type and, for a photo, the photo itself are sent to them to make the picture.
• Pixabay: when you choose Real photos, the words for your design are sent to it to find photos.
• A fonts service: your browser fetches the lettering from it, here and on a member's own website, so it sees your browser's request.
• If a visitor presses a player's button, that service (such as YouTube or Spotify) loads and may set its own cookies.
• Google or Microsoft, if you log in with them: they know you logged in to smashPC.
• The company whose AI answers the help chat: the question, the chat's last few lines and, for a member asking from their own page, a short summary of that page (its layout, look, header, section names, credits left and whether Publish is on).
• An outside email service: it carries the email smashPC sends you and any message you send to support@smashpc.com.

The microphone uses your browser's own speech-to-text; in Chrome that is Google's, in Safari Apple's.

We do not sell personal information.

Your requests

Your account details and your pages are changed from Account settings and the editor. Closing your account, under Account settings, deletes your content, photos and account details, apart from a hosting account, which is suspended. Requests about anything else go to support@smashpc.com.

Do Not Track, and children

This site does not respond to Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signals.

smashPC is for people 18 and older. An account found to belong to someone under 18 is closed.
