Do I really own my domain?

Yes. A domain you buy here is registered in your name at an accredited registrar, not in ours, and you can transfer it to any other company whenever you like. Names start at $16 a year and renew at the same price — the renewal price is always the signup price.

Can I leave and take everything with me?

Yes. Your whole site exports as plain HTML files that work on any host, and your domain is already yours to move. That holds even if we remove someone for breaking the rules — they still get 30 days to export everything.

Is there really no algorithm and no ads?

Really. Each person you follow can post once a day, and you see those posts newest first — that is the whole feed, with no ranking of any kind. There are no ads because the money comes from members paying for their own pages, not from advertisers.

What does it cost? Any hidden fees?

A page on the network is $2 a month, or $12 for the year — a dollar a month if you pay yearly. A full website at your own domain is $10 a month or $100 a year; the yearly plan includes your domain. A .com on its own is $18 a year. Renewal always costs the same as signup, and cancelling simply means your paid time runs out — no cancellation fees and no fine print.

Who runs smashPC?

One person, in Illinois — you can meet him on the about page. That means support is one inbox, which is a real limit — but it also means the person who made these promises is the same person who has to keep them, and there is no policy department to hide behind.

Where does my data live?

Your site lives on a server rented from Hetzner, a large European hosting company, in Helsinki, Finland, and it is backed up nightly. Your domain record lives with an ICANN-accredited registrar, in your name. smashPC makes its money from memberships, not from your data, so it stays where it is.

Is my site really mine?

Yes, in the way that counts: you can take it with you. The page templates and the software that runs them are ours — that part is honest — but everything you put on your site belongs to you, and it all exports as ordinary HTML files that work anywhere. Your domain is registered in your name from day one.

How is this different from a page on a big platform?

A page on a big platform lives at their address, and their software decides who sees what you post. A smashPC page is an actual website: people see your posts because they chose to follow you, and nothing reorders or buries them. If you ever leave a big platform, the page is gone; if you leave smashPC, you take the site and the domain with you.

What does the AI builder do with my words?

When you describe the look you want, those few words go to Anthropic, the AI company, and come back as a choice of theme, colors, and flair from our own designs. It never writes your page for you and never touches your about — your words are yours.

What happens if smashPC ever shuts down?

That is a fair question to ask of any small company, so here is the plain answer. Your domain is registered in your name at an independent registrar, so it would keep working and could move anywhere. Your site exports as plain HTML at any time, so the same pages could be hosted somewhere else the same week. Nothing you own here depends on smashPC existing. The longer version is on the about page.
